starnes in new york city. maria molina in our weather center tracking the storm telling us where it is going. we are going to start in new york with todd. good morning. >> good morning. i have to tell you the big story is the fire in queens new york. it is a section called far rockaway over by the atlantic ocean. this was in the evacuation zone some 50 homes caught fire. that fire started around 11:00 last night. a very tragic scene. we understand firefighters had difficulty reaching those homes because there's 3 feet of water in the street. 200 firefighters battling by the gusty winds that are still blowing. you might remember we have a taste of what happened early afternoon when a giant crane snapped on top of a guy p ant high rise. 90 stories tall. it was dangling over the streets of new york city. the other big issue is the storm surge that happened. i was in the storm surge had a chance to walk knee deep in the waters. the subway system flooded also a hospital new york city university. the hospital was flooded knocked out the backup generators they had to evacuate some 200 cases t

at 3:00 in new york city, there is a new twist in the deadly attack in libya. fox has obtained e-mails that show u.s. officials knew a group linked to al qaeda claimed responsibility for the attacks hours after the assault. the messages show up to 400 security officials at the white house, the state department, and the pentagon had copies of the e-mails in their possession while the consulate was still in flames. as you probably know, militants attacked consulate on 9/11 and killed four americans including the u.s. ambassador to libya. in the first days after the attack, the administration suggested it was likely part of a spontaneous protest against the antimuslim video. the e-mails including the one you see here, show officials learned quickly that the consulate was being fired upon. they show that administration officials knew a terror group claimed responsibility on facebook and they called for an attack on the embassy in tripoli. secretary of state, hillary clinton is pushing back on this. she says the e-mails do not tell the whole story. >> the independent accountability re
